Privacy Policy

Members United Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution. At MUCU, we recognize that our most important asset is our members’ trust. Working with you to safeguard your personal information is very important to us. We are required by law to give you this notice to explain how we collect, use and safeguard your personal information.

We are committed to providing you with competitive products and services to meet your financial needs, which necessitates that we share information about you with other organizations that we have entered into agreements with that provide services to us or additional financial products for you to consider. To protect our member’s privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strict confidentiality protections and limit the use of provided information. We do not permit these companies to sell your information to other third parties.

We collect nonpublic information about you from the following sources:

  • Information you provide on membership and loan applications and other forms.
  • Information about your transactions with us or others.
  • Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency.
  • Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on applications or other forms, this may be obtained from your current or past employers, or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions.

We may also disclose information we collect about you under other circumstances as permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct the operations of our credit union, follow instructions as you authorize, or protect the security of our financial records. If you terminate your membership with MUCU, we will not share information about you except as permitted or required by law.

We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic, or procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your nonpublic personal information.

While we have a large role in safeguarding your personal information, our efforts are futile if you don’t take adequate measures to protect your privacy, such as:

  • Do not share account numbers, credit and debit card numbers, PINs (personal identification numbers) and passwords. Never keep your PIN with your debit or credit card in the event that it is lost or stolen.
  • Unless you initiate a service request, do not give account numbers, social security numbers, etc. to other persons over the phone or online. Always remember that credit union personnel will only ask for you information for identification purposes if you call us. We will never call you and ask for information we already have.
  • It is very important that we have ways to reach you if we detect fraudulent activity. Please ensure that we have your current address, telephone number and e-mail address (if applicable).
